Federal Mandates
Executive Order 13548 
- In July 2010, President Barack Obama issued Executive Order 13548 which instructs federal agencies to take steps to increase employment of people with disabilities over the next five years.
- The NIH response: developed a hiring event specifically for individuals having a disability and veterans
- To date, the NIH Hiring Events for Veterans and Individuals with Disabilities resulted in hiring more than 49 individuals.
Federal initiatives
- Federal Equal Opportunity Recruitment Plan (FEORP) is designed to enhance NIH's diversity management objectives to increase the representation of persons with disabilities, as well as people of Hispanic descent in the NIH workforce.
