Director For Office of Science Policy and Communications, NIDA
National Institute on Drug Abuse
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Director, Office of Science Policy and Communications.
The Director, Office of Science Policy and Communications (OSPC), NIDA, provides science executive leadership in the formation of partnerships and collaborations with other Federal agencies and scientific, professional, and patient organizations. These collaborative efforts are critical to the communication and implementation of drug abuse and addiction research findings into national policy. S/he also organizes the Institute's strategic planning and evaluation process and the articulation of Federal policy related to research and the prevention and treatment of drug abuse and addiction. The incumbent advises the Institute Director on national drug abuse policy and legislation, regulations, and other policy issues affecting Institute programs; external relations with various Institute constituencies; and communication of scientific information. The incumbent is also responsible for planning and directing the activities of the Office; providing advice in formulating Institute goals, objectives, and strategies; and coordinating the Institute's research training programs.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree and will have research experience in a field that is relevant to drug abuse and addiction. In addition, he/she will possess experience that demonstrates creativity and the ability to provide leadership for the planning and analysis of scientific issues and policies for a large research organization, based on the knowledge of research findings and identified scientific opportunities in the drug abuse, addiction, or related fields.
Salary/Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience and a full package of Civil Service benefits is available including retirement, health and life insurance, long term care insurance, leave and savings plan (401k equivalent).
